Ralph Nader, the famed consumer rights advocate who is also a reliable Bernie Sanders supporter, was recently asked about President Donald Trump’s offer to help Joe Biden win the upcoming election. The veteran political activist was notably wary of the offer, providing some candid commentary as to why it’s a bad idea.
Nader commented on Trump’s offer during a recent appearance on the ‘Ray Hanania Show’ podcast, as reported by GodzillaNewz.
The veteran political activist argued that Trump’s offer to help Joe Biden win the election was almost certainly a ploy to safeguard the president from accusations of foreign interference.
“It’s a juices ruse to cover up, that if he does [interfere in the election], there’s no other way to demonstrate it, there’s no way to prove,” said Nader. “So, if they trace it back to Donald Trump, he can just say look, I offered to help Joe Biden and Joe Biden didn’t want my help, so I couldn’t help.”
Nader went on to argue that the idea that Joe Biden should accept President Trump’s offer for any kind of help is dangerous. According to Nader, any acceptance of such help would come with obligations, which is not something that Biden would want on any level.
“If some powerful person is offering money or something else, it comes with a demand that you carry out a service that they’re asking for,” said Nader. “For any candidate to accept any kind of money is under an extreme obligation to serve that person in the future.”
Nader’s views are in line with many Democrats, who believe Trump’s offers of election assistance are a tactical move to protect himself from oversight, or possible interference. As for Biden, his team has made it clear that they have no interest in taking help from the President.
