As the November 2020 Presidential elections draw closer, the race for the White House is heating up. According to the latest poll, Republican incumbent President Donald Trump leads the field of candidates by more than four to one in the key swing state of Michigan.
The poll, conducted by Monmouth University, revealed that 59 percent of Trump supporters were ‘very enthusiastic’ about voting for the President compared to just 15 percent of Democrat voters. This is the first time in months that Trump’s support has surged in the Great Lakes State, a trend which could help secure his victory in November.
The poll showed that while Democrats Bernie Sanders and Joe Biden trailed far behind, Trump was the clear favorite with a commanding lead. Moreover, since 2016, Trump’s support in Michigan has grown from 38.8 percent in the general election.
The Trump campaign has been actively targeting Michigan voters, holding rallies in the state and bragging about economic wins. Earlier this month, Trump tweeted, “Our economy is the envy of the world and it is all because of your unwavering support! We won Michigan in 2016 and together, we will win it again in 2020.”
Trump’s victory in Michigan in 2016 was a narrow one, but this latest poll shows he could have a much larger margin this time around. As the election season heats up and continues to shine a spotlight on the key battleground states, it remains to be seen who will ultimately prevail come November.
