Born Nimrata Randhawa, Nikki Haley is a South-Carolina raised Indian-American Politician. Growing up in the small town of Bamberg, South Carolina, her parents were modest in their means, but had an ambitious vision in their children, instilling the values of hard work and determination.
The family was hit hard financially when Nikki’s father, Ajit Randhawa, lost his job as a professor at Clemson University in the 1980s. Nikki, 14 years old at the time, decided to help her family with their income. She started an accountancy business stocking and wrapping shrimp on the side. Nikki worked relentlessly and eventually made enough money to put herself through college at Clemson.
In 1994, Nikki graduated from college with a degree in accounting and achieved a license in the information industry. In 2001, she used her degree to begin working full-time for the accounting firm Exotica International.
From this, Nikki grew her career becoming successful with her commodities trading process. With her progress, Nikki Rudy became the first Indian American woman to be elected to the South Carolina House of Representatives in 2004.
She moved on in 2012, becoming the first woman governor of South Carolina in 2014. From 2014 until her appointment as Ambassador to the United Nations in 2017, Nikki continued to prove her capabilities, becoming a determined and dedicated public servant.
