As the 2020 Presidential election cycle enters its final stretch, many Republicans have chosen to focus their attention on Democratic Presidential nominee Joe Biden. The former vice president has come under fire from many GOP officials, all of whom claim that Biden is a corrupt politician who would do harm to the country if he were to be elected.
As expected, Republicans have pulled no punches in their attacks against Biden. In early September, Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel accused the former vice president of “amassing a fortune off his decades in public office.” She argued that Biden had become a “millionaire in office” and had “enriched himself at the taxpayer’s expense.”
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump has been particularly aggressive in his criticism of Biden, launching numerous Twitter tirades in recent months. Trump has claimed that Biden is “a political hack” who has long been “controlled by the radical left.” The president has also suggested that Biden is too old and mentally unfit to be president, leading many political analysts to criticize Trump’s rhetoric as being both disrespectful and inappropriate.
At the same time, some Republicans have taken to making more factual claims against Biden. These mostly center around the controversial Ukraine-related controversy from 2019, in which Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, was accused of profiting from his father’s political connections. Trump and other GOP politicians allege that Joe Biden used his influence to pressure the Ukrainian government to drop a corruption inquiry into Hunter Biden’s business dealings.
However, the allegations have yet to be proven, and the Biden campaign insists that the former vice president did nothing wrong during his tenure in the Obama administration. Nonetheless, this has not stopped Republican politicians from calling for a full investigation and demanding that Biden be held responsible for any potential wrongdoing that may have occurred.
All these accusations and attacks against Biden come as a prelude to one of the most heated presidential elections in US history. Though Biden maintains a steady lead in the polls, the number of attacks against him from the GOP shows that Republicans are determined to make him a one-term president if he is indeed elected. The months ahead will be crucial for both Biden and the American electorate, as the battle to the White House continues to challenge the integrity of the electoral process.
