The global oil industry has evolved significantly over the past few decades. The future of the oil industry is uncertain, but one thing is for certain: these are the top 10 oil producing countries as of 2021. At the top of the list is the United States of America. With an estimated 13.9 million barrels of oil produced daily, the US is the leading oil producer in the world. This is largely due to its vast array of resources, including the Bakken Shale, Eagle Ford Shale, and the Permian Basin, which are all major sources of oil production. Saudi Arabia follows closely behind the US. As of 2021, the Middle Eastern country is producing close to 12 million barrels of oil each day. This is mainly due to the country’s significant reserves and advantageous geographical positioning. The Saudi Royal family also has a strong influence over the nations’ economy, and have managed much of the production and distribution of oil from within their own kingdom. Russia is next on the list, and is producing 11.3 million barrels of oil each day. Much of the country’s oil production is focused around the Ural Mountains, but the nation is beginning to explore other fields in Siberia and the Arctic. The fourth largest oil producer in the world is Canada, which is known for its vast reserves of tar sands and conventional oil fields. In 2021 the nation is estimated to produce 5.4 million barrels of oil per day. Next in line is China with its estimated daily 5.2 million barrels of oil production. The Chinese oil industry has seen tremendous expansion in recent years due to the nation’s economic growth and increasing energy demand. Oil production in China is mainly focused around the Shaanxi, Gansu, and Hebei provinces, all of which hold a wealth of oil reserves. The remaining countries on the list include, Iraq (3.9 million barrels per day), Iran (3.7 million barrels per day), Brazil (3.2 million barrels per day), the United Arab Emirates (3.1 million barrels per day) and Kuwait (2.8 million barrels per day). Although the US is the current leader in crude oil production, this could change in the near future. With the continued development of advanced drilling and extraction techniques, as well as the potential for renewable energy sources, the future of oil production is uncertain.
