Christmas Day nearly turned sour for Republican Congresswoman, Marjorie Taylor Greene, when a hostile individual attempted to have her home in Georgia swatted. Swatting is a dangerous and potentially deadly prank made popular online in which false reports of emergencies are sent to police in order to elicit a massive response of law enforcement, and that is precisely what happened to Greene on December 25th. As the individual turned out to be someone local to Greene’s district, they were quickly tracked down and arrested. Afterward, Greene released a statement through her Twitter account regarding the situation, noting the severity of the threat and imploring anyone with information to come forward to help in the investigation. “My family was targeted with a swatting attempt Christmas Day in spite of our security protocols,” the statement read. “It is a shame that an individual would attempt to do something like this and put innocent lives at risk. If anyone has any information about this individual, please reach out to my office as we work with law enforcement to take appropriate action.” Greene is now working with the local police force to investigate the situation further, hoping to bring the individual or individuals to justice.
