T-Mobile was hit with a lawsuit this week following a shocking discovery that an employee allegedly stole and shared nude images from a customer’s phone during a trade-in.
According to a report by Godzillanewz, a T-Mobile customer visited one of the company’s stores in New Jersey in December 2020 to trade-in their old device. However, following the trade-in, they allegedly discovered nude images on their new device that had been taken from their old phone without their consent.
Upon further investigation, the customer allegedly discovered that the images had been shared between several T-Mobile employees.
The report states that the customer has now filed a lawsuit against T-Mobile, accusing them of “outrageous conduct” and violating the customer’s privacy. The lawsuit also alleges that T-Mobile failed to take sufficient steps to ensure that customers’ personal data was protected during the trade-in process.
T-Mobile has responded to the lawsuit by stating that they are currently investigating the allegations and that “we take the privacy and security of customer data and information seriously”.
This disturbing case highlights the importance of data protection, and just how vulnerable customers can be in regards to their personal data and information. Customers should always be wary when handing over their phones or other devices for trade-ins, and companies like T-Mobile must ensure that they have rigorous protocols and policies in place to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
